TELECOM ITALIA AND THE SCS CLUSTER EXTEND STRATEGIC AGREEMENT ON NFC TO MACHINE-TO-MACHINE TECHNOLOGIES AND SERVICES
Barcelona, 27 February 2013
Telecom Italia is consolidating its partnership with the SCS world-class cluster in south-eastern France for the development of NFC technology through a series of activities targeted at the creation of an ecosystem based on Machine-To-Machine (M2M) solutions. The announcement was made today at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona exactly one year after the partnership began. Since then, Telecom Italia and French companies have undertaken a profitable dialogue around the topic of NFC, laying the foundations for a sustainable technological and commercial exchange between Italy and France.
The agreement is being extended to technology and services-related rollouts of projects and commercial opportunities. As part of an expansion of its own M2M offerings, Telecom Italia will be working together with the SCS world-class cluster and involving technology partners capable of adding value to the development of new services that extend its “Nuvola Italiana” products, while fostering the creation of new consumer electronics and Smart City-related models of use.
The SCS Cluster has built a worldwide reputation as a leading-edge technology centre for the development of contactless products and solutions, mobile wireless and proximity solutions characterized by high standards of security, in addition to M2M and Smart Cities. Cluster companies have already made a number of leading-edge services a reality in the South of France, after running a number of successful case studies in the cities of Nice, Sophia Antipolis, Marseille and Aix-en-Provence.
Lucy Lombardi, SVP Industry Relations at Telecom Italia, says: “The partnership between Telecom Italia and the SCS world-class cluster has developed out of a strong interest in leading-edge Mobile Trust ecosystems that ensure interoperability, security, privacy and global access to services. The excellent results achieved thus far have led to the partnership being renewed and extended to the sphere of M2M, showing how the company is increasingly committed to the business by integrating more and more with other value chain players.”
Giorgio Falessi, CEO of the SCS Cluster, comments: “Stepping up this partnership with Telecom Italia provides the SCS world-class cluster industrial ecosystem with a development opportunity on markets that are highly attractive for our leading-edge solutions. This agreement with Telecom Italia is an acknowledgement of the strategic importance of our skills in contactless, M2M & mobile networks and security and digital identity technologies.”
