PhotonHub Europe, develop your photonics projects in Europe

The PhotonHub Europe project aims to support the acceleration of the deployment and adoption of photonics in Europe, particularly in application markets.
To this end, PhotonHub Europe is positioning itself as Europe’s single one-stop-shop for photonics innovation, offering services to ‘non-photonics’ European start-ups, SMEs and large groups looking to innovate in the following eight sectors: Agri-food, Energy, Digital Infrastructures, Mobility, Health, Manufacturing, Safety/Security/Smart Cities, Space/Defence.

The PhotonHub Europe photonics innovation hub provides:

  • A range of training and advanced training courses to learn about photonics, both in terms of technology and applications, at the hub’s 40 demonstration centres and 10 experience centres across Europe, backed up by digital e-learning courses;
  • “test-before-invest” innovation support to engage in collaborative innovation projects between companies and laboratories, aiming to accelerate TRL from prototyping (TRL3-4) to manufacturing (TRL7-8), complemented by targeted advice on business and intellectual property;
  • Investment sourcing support, including investment preparation, business coaching and introductions to investors.

Zoom on the innovation support

PhotonHub Europe supports your photonics innovation projects from prototyping (TRL3-4) to manufacturing (TRL7-8) :

Prototype level: TRL 3-4

SMEs : First €30k of the innovation project budget fully subsidised ; 75% of total budget subsidised thereafter*.

Large-Scale Companies: 50% of the total budget subsidised*.

* Up to a maximum subsidised amount of €100k per prototyping project.

Upscaling level: TRL 5-6

SMEs : 85% of the total budget subsidised**.

Large-Scale Companies: 50% of the total budget subsidised**.

** Up to a maximum subsidised amount of €250k per upscalling project.

Manufacturing level: TRL 7-8

The support of PhotonHub at the manufacturing level will come in the form of a brokerage service, helping companies innovating with photonics to rapidly connect with existing European manufacturers in photonics which are most suitable for full-scale production and market launch of their new products.
