The project Silicon Eurocluster, which brought together 10 European clusters, ended in February 2025 after 30 months of collaboration. Built on the Silicon Europe Alliance network, the main objective of the project was to contribute to strengthening European self-sufficiency in the electronics sector, by improving the competitiveness and strength of its value chain, with particular support for SMEs.
FINANCING ELECTRONIC INNOVATION
A cascade financing system for European SMEs in the electronics sector has been set up through a call for projects. This scheme has supported 12 collaborative projects involving 25 SMEs, the tune of €80,000 per project, with the aim of facilitating the adoption of e-solutions by SMEs or less digitalised industries.
AKTANTIS member EZAKO, in partnership with Spanish company Mion Technologies, have developed the MAISOR project. This project has led to the development of a solution for the identification of counterfeit olive oils in order to combat fraudulent practices. The solution consists of a new sensor concept for volatile analysis based on an innovative analytical instrument powered by Edge-AI implemented in a microelectronic system.
TRAINING & GREEN TRANSITION
The project has offered training courses focusing on the ecological transition and sustainability in the electronics sector to teams from European clusters, enabling them to gain a better understanding of the new issues and problems facing companies in the sector.
In September 2024, the consortium published a comprehensive portfolio of traininf services offered by the Silicon Eurocluster consortium clusters on a variety of topics : Cybersecurity, green transition, Artificial Intelligence, microelectronics, progamming, etc. This initiative aimed at supporting upskilling and reskilling efforts, enabling European SMEs to bridge the critical skills gap they face.
Part of the financial support for SMEs was distributed in the form of ‘Green vouchers’ through a call for applications. These funding vouchers, worth €3,600, enabled 25 European SMEs to finance support services for the implementation of green solutions with the help of eligible experts, listed in Silicon Eurocluster’s catalogue of experts in ecological transition. SMEs have benefited from services such as awareness-raising campaigns, training, decarbonisation strategies and other initiatives on the circular economy, waste and resource management and eco-design.
Two AKTANTIS members have benefited from “Green Vouchers” :
- AzurIA, for carrying out a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of its products, providing an environmental balance sheet.
- Asclepios Tech, to carry out a carbon assessment of its activities
NETWORK FOR RESILIENCE
The project has resulted in a European mapping of electronics value chains and the creation of a Resilience Plan, an essential tool for consolidating the European technology ecosystem. This plan provides companies with the strategies they need to anticipate and overcome future challenges by identifying key areas for improvement and promoting self-reliance. It lays the foundations for a more competitive and sustainable industry.
INTERNATIONALISATION
The project has actively promoted the internationalisation of European SMEs by organising joint pavilions abroad (in particular SEMICON Taiwan) and facilitating the exploration of new international partnerships. The project also organised two webinars to provide SMEs with the resources and expertise they need to access key markets in the United States and Taiwan, thereby strengthening Europe’s global presence in technology and innovation.
Beyond its concrete results, the Silicon Eurocluster project has laid the foundations for continued collaboration and growth in the European electronics technology sector. The progress made, thanks to the commitment of the industrial partners and SMEs, will continue to stimulate innovation and resilience in the European electronics sector.
