4G LTE mobile network technology was developed to meet today and tomorrows needs in the world of mobility. It promises very high performance to meet increasing requirements in terms of user quality and experience while providing advanced functionality to optimize radio resource usage.
In the past, the use of a static radio plan followed by field trials was sufficient to meet operator challenges. 4G LTE technology brings the momentum to offer dynamic and flexible networks. Induced complexity requires new tools and methods to enable operators to fully exploit the potential of the LTE technology. The project “4G in vitro” proposes to develop next-generation optimization tools with the objective to reduce the gap between simulation and reality in accelerating deployment whilst reducing costs. The project covers the optimization problems induced by coupling dynamic radio transmission, mobility, application behavior and radio planning within like virtual environments.
The consortium “4G in vitro” brings together two industries Ercom (LTE network emulation tools) and Mentum (radio planning tools), as well as two academic actors; Eurecom and Supélec who contribute to the theoretical product design studies. The consortium is completed by a group of users from operators such as Orange, Monaco Telecom and Vidéotron. The experimental phase of the project is based on the use of a real LTE networks deployed in the PACA region under the name Com4innov.
