Textiles connected for the communications around the human body
The project aims to develop textile-integrated radiofrequency (RF) and electronics components for on-body communications in Wireless Area Body Networks. Two frequency bands will be in concern: Near Field Communication at 13.56 MHz permitting to carry data and power, and Industrial, Scientific, and Medical band at 2.4 GHz to increase the date transmission rate. RF components at 2.4 GHz will include surface wave guides made of Artificial Magnetic Conductors or corrugated ground plane using sewn and woven metallic yarns, as well as specific textile-integrated antennas to launch surface waves while interactions with complex human tissues should be limited. At 13.56 MHz, antennas and two-conductor transmission lines integrated in textile will be studied, and diode organic components will be integrated in textile with the goal to suppress connectivity issues commonly encountered in smart textile applications.
