Multifunctional implantable probes based on conducting polymer devices
PolyProbe is the continuation of the project Music (Multisensing polymer transistors for in vivo recording) financed by the ANR, in which we developed a system of simultaneous recording of the electrophysiological and metabolic activity at the surface of the brain. One of the major results of Music is the design, the manufacturing and the use of an organic transistor on the level of the site of recording. This transistor allows a considerable profit (10 times) of the signal report on noise compared to the classical sites passive, which corresponds to a major technological breakthrough. Within the framework of PolyProbe, we propose to integrate these transistors in electrodes to record in the depth of the brain, by associating there organic electronic ionic pumps, a technology recently developed to diffuse drugs with an excellent space and temporal resolution. Such a multimode electrode will make it possible to record a considerable number of neurons in vivo, while having the possibility of interfering with their operation at the local level.
