There is a strong need in the collaborative robot use industry that works in interaction with human operators, at high speed and in complete safety and without touching the operators. The robots available on the market do not meet this need because they use anti-collision solutions that impose strong use constraints (limited speed, contact) to meet safety standards.
Fogale Nanotech has been an expert in capacitive measurement solutions for more than 30 years, providing anti-collision devices for large-group medical machines and smart phone interface solutions. The company has developed a technology of capacitive sensors to make robots more sensitive to their environment, safer and more interactive in the presence of people, for high-speed operation without risk of collision.
The STMicroelectronics fab in Rousset has launched an ambitious program to modernize its production tool as part of the Industry of the Future. With this in mind and to maximize the efficiency of the entire manufacturing system, the environment of the production unit requires collaborative robots that can operate safely at high speed nearby and in cooperation with people. which is not possible with the current solutions.
The consortium’s ambition is to implement the opportunities offered by these new sensors for robots on the market and safely, by developing functionalities that will bring production into a new era of automation. One of the aims of this project is to develop solutions to equip existing robots that are integrated into production environments, such as ST Microelectronics, in order to make them truly collaborative in complete safety.
For this, the consortium integrates partners of choice able to best cover all aspects of the problem, including the LIRMM (algorithms and generation of trajectories), ATG Technologies (hardware and software integration on site), and Bureau Veritas (security) .
